Cardiff and Glasgow

no photos but cardiff is an amazing place. parked in a street when I arrived and it was the street where my great grandmother had lived before she came to australia and the place I had to buy my parking voucher was the IT section of the University, so could get a cord for my computer so at least I can use it. saw a great exhibition of leonardo da vinci pencil sketches from the royal collection. makes travel worthwhile when you see interesting artworks. walked to cardiff bay for dinner one night and stayed at an Etap hotel, cheap (£32 for the room which can sleep up to 3) and new, but some of the fat people I saw would not have fitted into the toilet. they have hotels all over europe and UK but none in glasgow until July 07. Gave back my hire car and I caught the bus from cardiff to glasgow, pleased to do some knitting as I looked at the scenery. I stayed at the Alexander Thomson hotel, stayed there last year and its cheap and central to everything and the breakfast is really good. Found a few pieces of information I wanted for my research and couldn't find some as well. The Mitchell library has been updated and its very modern now. Last year it was all under cover in places.
I took Ryanair from Glasgow to Dublin and that will be the next story.

New York -Heathrow & around UK

The plane was delayed laaving JFK, first the aerobridge wouldn't retract, then a bad storm, but arrived in UK one hour late. Picked up my car and with the trusty TomTom made it safely to Taunton. Have been chasing family history in Taunton, Chardstock, Dorchester, Exeter (arrived there with no hotel booking and it was Show time) fortunately someone cancelled while I was waiting at the desk. Also been to Launceston, stayed at the White Hart Hotel, it was very good and reasonable.
For a side trip, because everything was closed on sunday, went to Penzance and Lands End

The weather has been so so, and as you can see it was windy at Lands End.

After Lands End I drove to Tintagel to see the castle ruins, forgot how many steps I climbed but well worth the effort for the views

New York

One really nice spring day and still waiting for more warm weather

You know you are in New York
when
Pedestrians cross on the red with an inch to spare
You ask for a small and it’s called a tall
But the locals are drinking a grande with ice
You can be online, the cruise line or the FAQ and LMZ line
Taxis outnumber other cars
Walking the sidewalk is a danger
from people pulling luggage and
talking on their mobile phone
Young ladies wear short shorts with long boots in spring
but the winter coat stays ready for the change
The doors of the shops are open wide on the first warm day
Flowers are being planted in spare pots and garden space
You can visit little Italy, India, Russia, China and the world
without a passport
There is the avant-garde, the security guard and you’re on guard
People chant Japanese Buddhist, love-in, sin and seek enlightenment
Get botox, kick box or reconstruct
Learn about anything or nothing
and go to Tuesday poetry class

Just for Oskar, looks at those big tracks on the crane
