New York

Chris, Oskar and I left Colombo at 3.30am for Dubai (with a two hour stop over) and flew to Zurich. The weather was cold and cloudy and we were tired. Our hotel was a 10 min tram ride from the centre of the city and Oskar had his first ride. We visited our favourite veggie place called Hiltl, they had moved to a new location but were easy to find. Oskar loved the ravioli especially after aeroplane food. He fell asleep on the tram going home. We left for New York the next morning and had a great flight as Oskar had a seat. At JFK it was so cold. We had been at 35C the day before and it was 35F. After a few days it has warmed up considerably and today was 60F. It seemed like high summer with people walking around in Tshirts and strappy sandals. Chris and I attended a Cesaria Evora concert last night (one of the joys of being in New York) and I'm scanning the pages of TimeOut for things to do when my energy levels improve. One outing a day is all I can manage at the minute, so unlike me to need a sleep in the middle of the day.

Where 2 now

Chris, Oskar and I will be leaving Colombo at 3.30am tomorrow, flying to Zurich through Dubai.
I have had to buy a new ticket and we have a stop over in Europe on the way to New York. It is supposed to be 13c in Zurich when we arrive and 5c in the evening. We have been to Zurich before, so we thought that a better stop over than Milan (more difficult to get from the airport)or Frankfurt (our German is not good). All the summer clothes are packed away. Expected New York temperature on Tuesday when we arrive is 1c.

Where am I

I'm sitting by the pool
On a cloudy Colombo Day
When I should be over in Glasgow
But Dengue has caused a delay
I won't be visiting Scotland
And enjoying the colder sights
I'm stuck right here in Colombo
With its hot and humid nights
I've missed the trip to Kerala
A place I really wanted to see
Cause life has its unknown reasons
And changed the plans for me
I'm booked to fly to America
With Christine and Oskar as well
To sample the delights of New York
With lots of stories to tell
I've loved my time in Sri Lanka
And there's much more I want to explore
So I guess I'll have to return again
When Dengue is no more
